Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) - Full-Time

Location: Grants, NM

We're seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our team of compassionate caregivers. Our 25-bed critical access hospital allows our compassionate caregivers to provide excellent patient care in an environment that supports them in their professional growth and development. Cibola General Hospital is one hour from Albuquerque and close to Santa Fe. Known for its mild year-round climate and outdoor activities, Grants NM offers low property taxes and inexpensive housing costs.

Cibola General Hospital provides services in general surgery, 24-hour Emergency care, Intensive Care, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Pathology, Pediatric Dentistry, Podiatry, Primary Care and Radiology with X-ray, CT, MRI. We have three operating rooms including a room for scopes. Clinics, Lab services, Pharmacy, Cardiopulmonary, and Rehab.

Job Summary:

The duties of a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) mid-level provider include, but are not limited to, providing accurate mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, consultation, education and follow-up care to patients suffering from mental illnesses, disorders or substance abuse problems; proper maintenance of records, and any other reasonable and proper duties assigned.

Reports to: Practice Administrator/Chief of Staff or/Chief Executive Officer

Primary Functions:

  • Examine patients and record history
  • Adhere to proper charting protocols
  • Discuss with Physician and other health care professionals to prepare comprehensive plan
  • Order or execute tests as needed
  • Submit health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review by Physician
  • Analyze results of tests, diagnose and report to patient
  • Administer or prescribe treatment and medications
  • Refer to specialist as required for patient's well-being
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Education/Licensure Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree
  • 3+ years as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with experience in mental health assessment, diagnosis, triage, managing common psychiatric medication and treatment plans and managing crisis situations.
  • Must have and maintain current State of New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license in good standing
  • Current National Board Certification (PMHNP) (ANCC)
  • Must have DEA in good standing
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS
  • Experienced with adult and/or child and adolescent populations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective written, verbal and electronic communication skills
  • Show initiative, creativity and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues to provide quality healthcare
  • Prior experience using an electronic medical records system (Cerner)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (preferred)

Conditions of Employment:

Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, reference checks and a post-offer drug screen.
Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).
Tuberculin screening required annually
Hospital required vaccinations
Hospital required competencies
Must be able to meet the physical conditions of the position
