Ultrasound Technician

Cibola General Hospital is hiring**

We're seeking an Ultrasound Technician to join our team of compassionate caregivers. Our 25-bed critical access hospital allows our compassionate caregivers to provide excellent patient care in an environment that supports them in their professional growth and development with the latest technologies. Cibola General Hospital is one hour from Albuquerque and close to Santa Fe. Known for its mild year-round climate and outdoor activities, Grants NM offers low property taxes and inexpensive housing costs.

Cibola General Hospital provides services in general surgery, 24-hour Emergency care, Intensive Care, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Pathology, Pediatric Dentistry, Podiatry, Primary Care and Radiology with X-ray, CT, MRI. We have three operating rooms including a room for scopes. Clinics, Lab services, Pharmacy, Cardiopulmonary, and Rehab, and skilled care beds are provided.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled ultrasound technician. The ultrasound technician may specialize or work in a broad array of specialties, including obstetric and gynecological ultrasounds, and neurological, breast, heart, or abdominal sonography. You may also assist radiologists with vascular ultrasound procedures and ultrasound-guided biopsies.

To be a successful ultrasound technician, you should have excellent patient service and technical skills, as well as a strong working knowledge of anatomy and pathology. You should have strong problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.

Ultrasound Technician Responsibilities:

The following description of job responsibilities and standards is intended to reflect major responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Sets up and operates stationery and mobile sonography equipment to produce
  • scans ordered by the physician for the diagnosis and treatment of abnormalities in the human body
  • Transfers and positions patients in the most suitable posture to facilitate high-quality
  • scans while assuring patient comfort and safety. Instructs patients about the
  • procedure to be done.
  • Uses proper transducers and/or probes, activates the machine, and repeats procedure
  • at various angles and techniques as prescribed by physician.
  • Assists physician in related procedures as required.
  • Transfers images to PACS and completes all paperwork related to exams.
  • Maintains ultrasound room and equipment in clean orderly and safe condition.
  • Keeps room stocked with appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Practices sterile technique; prevents infection and cross-contamination.
  • Performs first-aid when necessary. Keeps CPR certification current.
  • Participates in in-service education classes.
  • Maintains daily patient ultrasound “log” documenting correctly and accurately
  • patient information to insure the quality of patient care as a backup to computer
  • information. Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Each ultra sonographer will take 50% of after-hours call (at night and on weekends)
  • for emergency cases.
  • Each ultra sonographer will help in the implementation of supply inventory and
  • usage of such supplies to keep the department in compliance with hospital control
  • of supplies utilized by the ultrasound department.
  • The ultra sonographer will use their skills when performing each
  • examination and will strive to provide excellent customer service to each patient.
  • The ultra sonographer will ensure the quality of service in the Department of
  • Radiology and effective usage of resources to maintain satisfactory relationships
  • within the department, with other departments within the hospital and the
  • community in general.
  • Will participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
  • Complete other projects as assigned by the Director of Radiology and/or
  • Administration.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital-related information. Observes all rules and
  • regulations set by the hospital and radiology department regarding chain of
  • command, time clock procedures, sick leave, vacation leave, safety reporting,
  • incident reporting, etc.

Ultrasound Technician Requirements:

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in sonography.
  • Certification
  • The ability to remain focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical stamina to lift heavy equipment and remain on your feet for long shifts.
  • The flexibility to work long shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as sensitivity to patients' problems.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
